Mmm, Letterpress!

I am a big fan of letterpress, and while searching for some letterpress cards on Etsy, came across a lovely shop called Letterpress Delicacies. They have some simple greeting card designs, along with some with friendly animals, but I just wanted to share the site with you all.

On a side note, I updated the blog template, so if you see any weirdness, let me know. I poked around though, and it seems to be working ok so far.

Scrapbook for a friend, and I heart Etsy (still)

I recently worked on an extensive project with a friend, crafting an enormous scrapbook for another friend who was moving away. We spent a few months piecing together photos I printed on my photo printer, along with glittery paper, stickers, and so many other lovely things.

What started out as a simple project turned into 30 intricately detailed pages in the first scrapbook I think I’ve ever worked on. It was kind of sad to realize that it was all done, but our friend really appreciated all the work we’d put into it. We also took photos of all the pages, so we’d be able to remember what it looked like.

It was really nice to actually see such a huge project through from start to finish, though the idea of actually buying supplies and using them up — sometimes the same day! — was a little new to me. I’ve always had a bad habit of collecting supplies I never used, so this was a nice change.

I might have one little project to work on in the next week, but I’ll have to wait until I post more about that. In the meantime, I’ve been buying a few things for myself on Etsy, and wanted to share some of the shops I’ve bought from.

Recent Etsy Purchases - March (by Valerie.)

I recently started thinking more about buying cute, dressy things for myself, so this was part of the reason for looking for items like this in the first place. And, as should be no surprise by now, they’re all Japanese in design and theme. The barrette and purse are both from Tago Design of Japan and the necklace comes from Ceeb Wassermann in Australia, who I’ve purchased a few necklaces from in the past.

Rubber Stamp Show in San Jose

For anyone near San Jose, the Original Rubber Stamp Convention is going on next Saturday (Feb 21st) at Napredak Hall on Montague Expressway. More info on their site.

My favorite paper store Hanko Designs will be there — as always — and there’s usually plenty to browse and shop for otherwise.

Update (02/16/2009): It looks like there was a last minute venue change. Fortunately, Rosewater Hall isn’t far from Napredak Hall.

Cute Cross-Stitch Patterns

I haven’t touched my latest cross-stitch project in many months, but I wanted to share a cute Etsy shop that offers fun-looking cross-stitch patterns that I thought you all might like. It’s called AndWabi-Sabi, and the designs are pretty varied, though all in a similarly simple but sweet style.

I especially like the hamster, but the chemistry set is pretty cool too.

No Post Post

I wish I were able to post more frequent updates here, but I just haven’t been doing much crafting for a number of months now. I haven’t felt very interested in crafts for some time, and after having moved to a smaller apartment, I don’t have a dedicated craft space now. I had to pare down my supplies a bit, and will probably get rid of a few more things soon, but the rest is stashed in a closet.

Right now, digital things feel a bit more appealing (and easy), so I’ve made the occasional photo mosaic on Flickr, but that’s about it. Perhaps once I feel more interested, I’ll try my hand at something crafty again. We’ll see.

I have thought about posting links to other people’s works here, since I can at least appreciate other’s handiwork. If that sounds of interest to you, please let me know. In the meantime, I’m just browsing Etsy and Flickr to find pretty things others have made.

I hope you’re all doing well. :)
